UK Payment Provider Comparison: Rates and Contracts 2026

Choosing a card payment provider involves more than comparing headline rates. Contract length, hardware costs, MOTO rates, and additional charges all affect your real cost. This article summarises the key providers in the UK market for 2026, based on publicly available pricing as at May 2026.

Note: This article is a factual summary of published rates. Pricing changes frequently. Always verify current rates directly with each provider before making a decision. Some providers (Dojo, takepayments) do not publish rates publicly; their figures below are estimated from third-party sources and should be treated as approximate.

This article covers rate and contract structure. For a broader comparison of technology, support, and features, see our article "Teya vs Traditional Providers: Why Businesses Are Switching".

What to Ask Any Provider

When comparing quotes, ask these specific questions:

  1. What is my all-in effective rate, including assessment fees, scheme fees, and any monthly charges?
  2. What is the MOTO rate if I take any telephone or remote payments?
  3. What is the minimum contract length and the early termination fee?
  4. Are there PCI compliance fees, statement fees, or authorisation fees not included in the headline rate?
  5. What hardware am I being quoted, and what is the total cost over 12 months including rental?

The headline rate is rarely the full picture. Your effective blended rate (total fees divided by total turnover) is the number that matters for comparison. Use our free calculator at klipy.uk/calculator to calculate your current effective rate.
